Maintenance Tips to Extend Service Life of Evaporative Air Coolers

02 Sep, 2026
Evaporative air coolers own relatively simple mechanical structures. Nevertheless, correct and regular maintenance is essential to stabilize cooling performance, avoid breakdowns and extend total service life. Many end users face declining cooling effect or unexpected faults simply because of lacking standardized daily upkeep. Below are practical maintenance guidelines for evaporative air cooler operators, wholesalers and after sales technicians.

Cooling pads are core heat exchange components. Water quality determines pad service life. When hard water with high mineral content is used, limescale will accumulate on cellulose cooling pads gradually. Heavy limescale blocks air passage and reduces evaporation efficiency, resulting in obvious cooling capacity drop. Users should clean cooling pads every 24 weeks during peak summer operation. Take out pads gently, rinse them with low pressure clean water. Never use hard brushes that scratch fiber surfaces. In regions with hard local water, adding water softener or installing water filter devices can effectively slow limescale build up.

Water tank and water circulation system also need routine care. Drain remaining water completely when the machine stops working for several days. Stagnant water inside tanks breeds algae and bacteria, generating unpleasant odor and contaminating cooling pads. Check water pumps regularly to confirm smooth water circulation. If pump fails to deliver water to cooling pads, cooling function will stop even though the fan keeps rotating. Keep water filter screens free from dirt blockage.

Outer casing and air inlet mesh should be cleaned periodically to remove dust accumulation. Dust blocking air inlet reduces air intake volume and weakens overall cooling output. For outdoor installed units, check shell condition; repair UV caused cracks timely to prevent rainwater infiltration into internal electric parts.

Before long time shutdown at the end of hot seasons, carry out full scale maintenance. Thoroughly drain and clean the water tank, completely dry cooling pads before closing storage covers. Do not leave cooling pads wet for months, or mildew will destroy pad material. Inspect fan motor, wiring and control panel for aging and loose connections.
As an evaporative air cooler manufacturer, we supply matching spare parts including cooling pads, water pumps and filter screens for global partners. We compile multilingual maintenance manuals for all export models. Distributors can forward these maintenance suggestions to local end users. Good maintenance habit not only keeps stable cooling performance, but also cuts after sales repair frequency, helping users maximize return on investment of evaporative cooling equipment.
